A soon to be released independent poll by the well-respected Public Policy Polling (PPP) firm conducted on January 22-25 shows David Hoffman gaining ground on Alexi Giannoulias in the Senate Democratic Primary. The PPP Poll has the latest numbers to date:
Giannoulias 32
Hoffman 20
Jackson 18
Undecided 29
Polling results compare to the Chicago Tribune poll that was conducted on January 16-20 and published today in the newspaper:
Giannoulias 34
Jackson 19
Hoffman 16
Undecided 26
Mr. Giannoulias has spent more than $2 million on television ads over the last several weeks and has shown little or no movement in the polls. On the other hand, since December, David has moved up 11 points in the polls from 9 percent to 20 percent.
David Hoffman has received all of the major newspaper endorsements in the state including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, State Journal-Register, Peoria Journal-Star, The News-Gazette and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Hoffman has just started his last ad campaign with a substantial statewide buy.
With 29 percent of the electorate still undecided eight days out from the election, voters are looking for something differeant than business as usual. The movement by David in the recent polls shows that they are breaking his way.
Bottom line: This race is still wide open and Hoffman is well positioned to close the gap.
